Aboard 1970-73. Radioman on some turnarounds and couple of WestPacs. Remember...hit a whale, an oiler, a pier in DaNang, thru the eye of typhoon, crushed a yacht and run agroun in SanDiego. From AnThoi to QuangTri we delivered. Chief Guyton was first, funniest, and best I met. First and best Cap'n was full bird by name of Black. Best to all shipmates: here, gone or in the deep. I'll leave email later date

To all who had a hand in putting this on, you and your wives did a hell of a job. All of you who didnt make it, you should consider trying to make it in 2008 in St.Louis Mo. Garry Gordon 'E' division 65-68 great site! saw in a comment where the Alamo collided with an oiler in 72. We also collided whith an oiler while I was aboard. I guess its a good thing she was taken out of service before we ran out of oilers and breakwalls. to the son of Tom McLuckles, I have a couple of the patches packed away somewhere will send them to you if I can find them. ggordon@satx.rr.com

Just recieved a post card from Gary Moss as a reminder to get signed up for the Reunion. I went to Alamo's web site to get more information. What a great page. I was able to check on old shipmates in the members list and get the info I need to become a member, as well as everything I need for the reunion. I am looking foreward to returning to San Diego and seeing shipmates. From what I see on TV and the internet there has been some major changes to San Diego sinice 1991 ( when I retired) I served aboard Alamo from March 1983 to Dec 1986 as the senior Medical Department Rep. Gene Haukoos HMCM USN RET. I returned to IOWA when I retired and have been running the county Emergency Medical Services. See you in San Diego.

Hello all. I'm MR3 Dowling, serving aboard the Alamo in 67-68. Tet and fighting supply dump fires were the highlights of the tour. I look back on it, today, with fondness for the ship and its crew. Speaking of the crew, I looked up the photos of those logged on to the crew list, for that period and found you all in perhaps some of the best days of your lives. I still have the tour/cruise book and would be pleased to share what ever is in it. I found this site while doing a search for two other MRs that I served with. If anyone knows the whereabouts or contact info of Roger Erickson and Hutchinson I'd be obliged if you pass it on or tell them I'm hunting them down. Roger was from California, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa or one of the Santas. You'd be surprised at how many Roger Erickson there are in CA. My apologies, as I don't recall Hutch's first name. If you've every met these guys, you wouldn't forget them. Roger was part Native American; always talking about his sickle (motorcycle in CA talk.) I smacked Hutch in the head with a gear shaft one day as we were repairing radar tower mechanicals. He was too nice a guy (and too stunned) to smack me back. Well, that's my story. I'm proud to be your crew member. Paul Dowling pdowling7@comcast.net

Hello: This is my first time visiting this Website, and it is great. I am Jose Mercado, retired BMC, and was onboard the Alamo from 81 to 82 as a BM3 and left as a BM2. I just went through all the pages of the site and it is very nice to remember the good times onboard. I will sign up to the association, and I am looking into making this next reunion coming up. Congratulations on this website, and lets keep the Alamo Alive!

Hi. Colby Lamb here. I was on the Alamo from '72 - '75. Good friends and good times! I was a GM3 when I got out. Will never forget the time I fell asleep in after steering when the rudder got stuck and the ship was going in circles...at least that's how I remember it. Came into Okinawa too fast and had to drop anchors. Did we collide with the pier? I still have a picture of the MCBW looking up to the bridge as if to say "We need to drop these &%#**#%@% anchors NOW!!!" My email is colbylamb@yahoo.com

I served on Alamo from 72-75 and will never forget the part of my career that I spent onboard. Both the good times and the trying ones.I will never forget Chief Fetty,or Chief Ordano or the time we had trouble with the steering and had to take on fuel setting behind the LPH at anchor. Had a lot of memories from there. Will never forget Operation Kangaroo One when we went to Australia. MMCS Jim Carley (Ret.)
