Boy does this bring back memories! My name is Steve Lolley I served on board from 66 to 70, when I left I was an SK3 and kept commissary records. About hitting the breakwater do you remember what alarm went off when it happened? I remember the Captain telling the Lt, "All back full my ass, all back emergency full!" I remember the big hole tore in the bow of the ship and we had to go to San Diego for repairs at the floating dry-dock. Remember the band that played when we refueled? Remember the guys who played? Remember when we pulled into one port to pick up a dredge and nobody was supposed to leave, but cabs kept pulling up and doors opened with nobody around? I do recognize some of the names and will be contacting them tomorrow. I am definitely going to start a USS Alamo collection. Does anyone have a cruise book from 69/70? I have my 67/68 but can't find the other. I hope to hear from some of you, especially those that went drinking with me at Subic Bay, Hong Kong, Yokosuka and other areas. Steve Lolley-SK3, papernut@hotmail.com, 785-484-2503 Meriden, Kansas

I looked at this site about 3 months ago and there was nothing. The site is really nice. I was on the Alamo in '67-'68 as an SN in 1st division. I transfered off and sent to Sub School. I did have the opertunity to tour the Alamo with my wife in the late 80's in San Diego. I retired as a STSCS/SS in 1990. I remember my time on the Alamo fondly. Good Site Thank you for getting it up. My e-mail address is dsrv1@frontiernet.net and I live in northern Nevada

Dear Shipmates, My name is Robert E Lee Davis and I am a "PLANKOWNER". I served on the USS Alamo from August 1956 until June 1958. I was a Storekeeper. In the posted history of the Alamo, seems like there was a little information left out. The info was the "Restricted Availability" in Vallejo, Calfornia in 1957. During the time the Aalamo was towing fuel barges between Eniwitok and Bikini Atoll, we were relieved and was heading for Japan. The ship stopped at Kwajalein Island for fuel that subsequently contained water. we were foundering on our way to Japan in an approaching storm. Real tedious moments; but for a young sailor it was it was an experience that I would never forget. I anyone wants to talk about that timeframe or anything else about the USS Alamo, I cabe contacted @ 661-831-4126. e-mail: erddavis@earthlink.net
